On Saturday 17 March, the Wexford cumann of the Connolly Youth Movement organised a successful rally, in the Bullring - Wexford’s town centre. The rally saw a wide and enthusiastic attendance and got an engaging response from locals.

Leaflets were distributed that laid out our organisation’s position and countered far-right, and liberal lies about the housing crisis.

This had been done previously via social media posts which was well received. However, it was of greater importance to do this on the day, both in speeches and leaflets, especially as the rally saw online engagement from far-right and liberal elements.

The rally was well organised, with postering campaigns in Gorey, Courtown, Enniscorthy, Riverchapel, Courtown, and Wexford town.

The message was clear and simple; “Housing for the People, Not for Profits” and “Vultures Out!”.

Actions were coordinated with the Revolutionary Housing League, who organised a banner drop over the Bullring market gate. The musician Jimi Cullen was also welcomed, who preformed his original ‘Homes For All’.

While the event was initially endorsed by local Sinn Féin councillor Tom Forde, it recieved attention from anti-immigrant elements who said they would attend.

As a result, the Wexford cumann proudly displayed a banner proclaiming “The Crisis is Capitalism”, to ensure that the message of the rally was unmistakeably Marxist-Leninist.
