The Enemy at Davos – War on the Tongues of Reaction

On Wednesday 21st January 2026, all the faces of western imperialism were seen in the Davos Hotel to discuss very important matters, such as increasing European military spending, how the price of medicine is not high enough and the potential re-division of Greenland’s territory.

There was little in the way of ‘economic’ discussion, except for where it relates to financing the drive towards global war. World leaders present showed much concern for Greenland’s status as an asset of the EU and threats to withdraw US capital exports, all due to recent threats from US Pres. Trump, regarding potential tariffs for countries that reject his colonial ambitions

The Old and New Faces of ‘Multi-Lateralism’

World leaders in attendance included Chancellor Friedrich Merz, whose government has forced 55,000 young German students to the streets against ‘Wehrpflicht’, the policy of conscription. Germany committed to raising its military spending to 3.5% of its GDP, yet no panel was to discuss the one in five Germans that are in medical debt and the widespread teacher shortages. Housing had also not come up in this ‘economic’ forum despite the widespread artificial scarcities that exist all across Europe.

Pres. Of the Zionist Entity Isaac Herzog spoke on the reconstruction plan for Gaza, where he calls for “technocratic government”, designed for the elimination of political opposition and resistance movements. He naturally failed to address the continuous bombardment of Gaza in flagrant violation of the “ceasefire”.

Pres. of Finland Alexander Stubb spoke as the brainchild of the new Europe, one without neutral nations. Finland is now an example of a former neutral country that has conceded to NATO militarism, joining in April 2023. Among the ragged and haggard old guard, he is a fresher face for NATO militarism, supporting the push for a continental bloc as relations between NATO partners shatter over trade and Greenland. Finland has long had a policy conscription for 18-60 year olds and its defence budget has now climbed to €6.5 billion.

NATO’s Davos Cameo

Much of these live panel discussions had been almost exclusively reserved to European independence from US defence, which had been highlighted by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte who praised Donald Trump for forcing Europe to “step up, [and] face the consequences” of not investing more in military expenditure.

Whilst Rutte admits that through the structure of NATO “the US, Canada and the European NATO allies [are] completely integrated”, but the necessity for the imperialists to seek the division and re-division of an already divided world has now fallen on the door step of the EU, as the US rattle their Sabres towards Greenland. There was no concerns raised when the US unlawfully kidnapped Venezuelan Pres. Nicholas Maduro in order to facilitate regime change in the country. But now since similar war aims are pursued for ‘strategic advantage’ in Greenland, a new pretext for militarism has arisen, albeit without the threat of kidnapping European leaders.

Trouble in Liberal Paradise

The much anticipated speech from Donald Trump had most accurately out of all the attendees displayed the current state and decorum of contemporary imperialism and the crisis of capitalism. A blabbering hunk of dyed flesh, like something out of East-German cinema.

He boasted about the theft of 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil as a means of becoming more energy competitive, at the expense of enslaving an entire nation to Yankee oil barons. The interim Venezuelan government is now even taking deportation flights from the US, as ICE begins to crack down on minorities across the United States.

What has been defined at Davos are the ruptures that exist in the western imperialist bloc, caused in part by their still competing interests over scarce resources and land. The need to support their respective domestic interests in this changing world is now conflicting with the framework of the old Cold War alliance. They have lost the cohesive fashion seen in the Bush and Blair era of NATO imperialism, as now countries are more concerned with protecting their domestic markets. Tariffs and trade wars are a way of re-dividing markets, spheres of influence and access to raw resources, and now as the US empire is pushing on tariffing the EU, the imperialist bloc of the European continent is now beginning to realise the precarious nature of their alliance.

When all the major sources of analytical press are covering these events within the confines of bourgeois binaries, it’s very easy to get caught up in these charades of bluster and pontification. The new and old figureheads of Euro-Atlantic imperialism in Davos are attempting to divide the world into a binary, either you are on the side of multi-lateralism, that understands the world being governed by international law, or multi-polarism on the other hand, a world defined by differing blocs. This artificial binary disregards the nature of imperialism and the division and re-division of the world, as seen in the fractures in the NATO alliance. It is a worldview that is nothing more than a flimsy idealist cover, where all imperialist powers attempt to mask the character of their respective interests under this false binary.

The economics of supporting working families was not on the agenda in Davos. The only future they want for young people is one where we are fighting in a trench for our reactionary governments. We reject their bourgeois binaries. We reject multi-lateralism and multi-polarism, for we support proletarian-internationalism. Our enemy is not working Russians, Americans or British, but the ruling class that are openly plotting for World War Three. It’s here, that we will hold in high regard the words of one of the greatest Europeans of the past century, Karl Liebknecht - der Hauptfeind steht in eigenen Land, the enemy is at home.
